Winchester Hernia Center Statistics (2013-2014)
- Dr. Marfing performed 531 hernia repair surgeries in calendar year 2013-2014.
- One patient (0.19%) developed a surgical site (wound) infection.
- Two patients (0.37%) developed a localized wound hematoma following open inguinal hernia repair that required wound site re-exploration for evacuation of the hematoma. They were discharged home the next day, and recovered promptly.
- Three patients (0.56%) experienced a recurrence following laparoscopic hernia repair of a large inguinal hernia. This required open re-repair as an outpatient. To date, they are recovering well without sequelae. Since these occurrences, extra-large implantable mesh is now available for use, as needed, for particularly large inguinal hernia repair.
- These statistics are consistent with a high-volume/high-quality surgical practice.
